A visit to the studio of artist Cristina Lei Rodriguez is like being transported into a kaleidoscopic daydream. Bohemian chandeliers dangle off the trees and vivid colors drip from every corner. Her work echoes a tension between the natural and the artificial and creates layered magical worlds that unfold slowly. The objects Rodriguez conceives take many forms, but all are made from common materials that are given a new life. “All my work is assemblage,” she once said in an interview. Rodriguez’s chromatic, jewel-hued sculptures lays the foundation for her first publication, Act Natural: Retrospect Of Work, 2003 – 2017.

The book includes essays by the artist and writer, Shane Aslan Selzer; José Carlos Diaz, Chief Curator of Art of The Andy Warhol Museum; and Christian Larsen, Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Act Natural is a sculpture with a hidden book inside - individually created by the artist using both synthetic and natural materials. Each book is a one-of-a-kind art piece.
